US technology company Meta has made headlines with its recent acquisition of Limitless, a promising startup recognized for its innovative AI-powered wearable recording device. Announced without any disclosed financial details, this acquisition signals Meta’s continued investment in the burgeoning field of AI and wearable technology.
A spokesperson for Meta expressed enthusiasm about bringing Limitless into the fold, stating, “We are excited to have Limitless join Meta to accelerate our work on building AI-enabled wearables.” This acquisition aligns with Meta’s broader strategy to enhance its technology offerings and integrate AI capabilities into consumer products.
At the heart of Limitless’s offerings is the Pendant, a sleek recording device designed to be worn as a necklace or attached to clothing. This compact gadget is promoted as a tool that enables users to “remember everything you have said during the day, from personal meetings to spontaneous conversations.” Such a capability taps into the growing consumer desire for technology that enhances everyday life and recollection.
Following the announcement of the acquisition, Limitless has temporarily suspended sales of the Pendant. Founded just five years ago and headquartered in Denver, Colorado, Limitless has quickly gained traction in the tech scene. The startup’s relatively short history underscores the rapid pace at which innovation can lead to significant opportunities within the tech industry.
Limitless’s financial journey has been quite impressive. According to Pitchbook, the company has raised approximately 33 million US dollars in venture capital, attracting notable investors such as Andreessen Horowitz and prominent figures from OpenAI, including co-founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman. Remarkably, in a financing round conducted in 2023, Limitless was valued at 368 million dollars, showcasing the vibrant potential perceived by investors in wearable technology and AI.
