IT Specialist Prepared to Provide Assistance

Greg Levestam: Bridging Skills and Compassion in a Time of Need

In a world where job security can be fleeting, one man’s commitment to his community shines brightly. Greg Levestam, an Information Technology (IT) manager based in Nadi, Fiji, has stepped up to support his fellow citizens in a commendable act of kindness amidst a wave of recent job losses.

A Heartfelt Response to Unemployment

Greg’s initiative is particularly poignant given the recent termination of over 700 employees from Fiji Airways due to economic challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. His motivation to provide his IT expertise for barter or free assistance is rooted in his personal connections. Notably, his wife, Adi Salasaini Kavu Cakobau Levestam, was a beloved senior flight attendant for the airline for three decades, making their family’s experience uniquely personal.

“I have a beautiful family here in Fiji and abroad,” Greg shared, emphasizing the support he has received. “Just my love to help people,” he elaborated, explaining that this endeavor is more than just a professional offering; it’s a genuine desire to uplift those around him.

A History of Helping Hands

Greg’s inclination to lend a hand is not a new phenomenon. During his tenure at Musket Cove Island Resort and Marina on Malolo Lailai, he often found joy in assisting staff and community members after hours. “To look at their faces with smiles was huge,” he recalled, mentioning his previous contributions to the local villages of Solevu and Cubi. His actions reflect a deep-rooted love and commitment to his community, making him a cherished figure among those who know him.

Offering Valuable IT Skills

As an IT manager, Greg’s skill set is highly valuable, especially during a time when many are navigating the digital landscape due to shifting employment and remote work dynamics. His pledge to provide free consultations and software repairs to those affected by the job cuts is a refreshing reminder of the power of community spirit in tough economic times.

“I will also give Fiji Airways staff free consultation and software repair to those who have been released due to COVID-19,” he noted, showcasing his dedication to making a tangible difference in the lives of those impacted.

A Journey Rooted in Passion

Greg’s journey to becoming an IT manager began in his hometown of Suva, where he spent much of his childhood in Lami and Levuka. He attended Marist Brothers High School before venturing to Australia to chase his dreams in information technology. This path reflects his commitment to personal growth and professional development, making his current offers of support even more meaningful as he puts his skills to use for the benefit of his community.

Community Impact Through Social Media

His outreach campaign is also connected to the popular “Barter for Better Fiji” Facebook page, where community members can seek and offer assistance in various forms. The platform has become a powerful tool for people like Greg, enabling them to connect with those in need quickly and effectively. It illustrates how modern technology can foster community integration and mutual support.

In challenging times, it is often the selfless actions of individuals like Greg Levestam that remind us of the importance of compassion and community cohesion. By leveraging his IT skills to assist former airline employees, he not only enhances their immediate prospects but also strengthens the fabric of his community during a period of uncertainty.
